Which encryption features are implemented in SynergyXR?

Overview of encryption features and related technical aspects of SynergyXR.

This article gives an overview of encryption features and related technical aspects of SynergyXR, to determine its classification under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), governed by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).

Use of Encryption

SynergyXR employs industry-standard encryption technologies for protecting customer data:
  • Data in Transit: All communications between clients, services, and APIs are secured using TLS (HTTPS).
  • Data at Rest: All stored data is encrypted using Azure-managed server-side encryption (AES-256).

The platform does not provide user-accessible cryptographic APIs, nor does it include specialized or custom-developed encryption functionality. Encryption is used solely to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of customer data.

Classification Determination

Based on the encryption functionality described and the applicable EAR provisions (15 CFR §742.15 and Category 5, Part 2 of the Commerce Control List):

  • The SynergyXR platform qualifies as mass-market encryption software using standard cryptographic algorithms.
  • It is therefore classified under: ECCN: 5D992.c — “Mass-market” encryption software employing standard encryption algorithms for information security.

As such, it is subject to the EAR but does not require an export license to most destinations, except as restricted under general U.S. trade embargoes or sanctions.

Statement of Accuracy

This classification is based on SynergyXR’s current encryption implementation and the U.S. EAR in effect as of December 2025.

If the platform’s encryption capabilities or underlying technology change significantly, this classification will be re-evaluated.
